BACK TO THE FUTURE: DeLorean Time Machine Q&A + Demos
From your local, friendly DeLorean owner in Vancouver: A great night at an 80s-themed fundraiser hosted by the #maritimemuseum during the #festivaloflights fireworks event.
It is a great privilege and an honour to own such a special vehicle, and to share it with others. In this video, I cover a few frequently-asked questions about the #delorean car, and features of this replica #deloreantimemachine.
I am indebted to @LeslieMedia for capturing and sharing all of this, in order for me to share it with all of you.
Many thanks are also due to the @bcdelorean folks for referring me to this event, and the @vancouvermaritimemuseum6761 for hosting and some logistical support.

The DeLorean won't start: One bad fuse, no good engine.
Переглядів 7414 днів тому
After two tow trucks and a few weeks in a local shop, it turns out my engine failure while driving was due to a single fuse burning out. (In retrospect, I thought I did smell something about a minute before the engine cut out!) DeLorean fuse #7 is rated for 20 amps, labeled as "engine control" and includes the fuel pump, among other things. It runs continuously, and so it is under load whenever...

What a night! A personal life highlight: Driving my replica #deloreantimemachine by the largest crowd I've seen in a minute (or two) - an estimated 5,000 people gathered to see #backtothefuture in Stanley Park as part of the Evo Summer Cinema series. It's an honour and a privilege to have and share this very special car with others - and what better time and place to catch a bunch of fans than ...

That said, modern controllers and streaming are a complete game-changer: done right, you get a classic look and feel combined with modern convenience. Perhaps because I'm classically trained, I don't like big screens. I also do...

If you saw a #delorean in downtown Vancouver on a sunny Friday afternoon, that was likely me - waiting for a lift. 😅 in-flux.ca I was driving downtown and heading home, when the car engine suddenly died. I pulled over and spent a few hours troubleshooting, to no avail. Jump-starting, gas, and a bit poking around the electrical system - no dice. We suspect the fuel pump fuse, or a related relay ...
Repairing bent pins on a Socket-478 Intel CPU from 2006 🔍🤏

It's nice when things work out, especially on the first try. In the process of building a retro PC computer, I got a 2006-era motherboard for $30 and a CPU for $7 via eBay. The CPU almost fit in the socket, but not quite: some pins were bent and prevented it from sitting flush. I took a chance with some tweezers, and I was able to straighten out a number of pins and get the CPU fitting nicely i...

      @@scottschiller The fader gets stuck. I have everything disassembled laying right in front of me as we speak. The plastic part where the rails are going through has wear marks. The holes on one side begin to turn oval, white plastic residue is collecting- I would think because of the friction. I cleaned it as best as I could but I am feeling that rhe fader will get stuck again. I have this mixer for around 20 years, went with me to some outdoor jams. The rhing has seen some things. Brave warrior. At the moment I am also trying to fix the broken spring from the phono/line/flash switch. I lost the little ball bearing. Omg. Wish me luck.

      @SoloArtForm Ah! I wish you luck on your repair journey. 😅 If you can’t fix it, you may be able to find a replacement via eBay. I’ve seen some SK-2F and similar models on there for pretty cheap, especially if they have a missing power supply, knob or broken line/phono switch.

    Ah ha. My sentiments exactly. (1) Cheap China USB to floppy adapter, (1) male to male floppy header, (1) floppy cable with 3.5 and 5.25 You just proved that my idea works. Thank you friend.

    • @scottschiller
      @scottschiller 6 днів тому

      Have you reproduced these results using one? In my finding, those inexpensive adapters are less likely to work on 5.25" drives. What has been more successful (and still not "perfect") is a set-up using the SMSC floppy controller chip. I do recommend trying a few of those inexpensive ones, because I only have one generic "FDD@1306" model.

    Unlimited copters?? I remember grinding level 1 to build a bank of 20+ copters before I even had a thought of a campaign.. that of which always died in level 9 or 10. With unlimited copters, you can fly willy-nilly w/o a care in the world. Need fuel? Nah, just kamikaze into something and respawn like it ain't no thang. The game is hard as heck, but unlimited copters breaks the game imo.

    • @ManDudeBroBuddyFriendPalGuy
      @ManDudeBroBuddyFriendPalGuy 8 днів тому

      I didn't make it clear. Copters are precious. Anytime you'd lose one was an, "Aww f**k" moment.

    • @scottschiller
      @scottschiller 8 днів тому

      This is 100% true, and “copters are precious” as I’m sure you know is one of the game tips that scroll by. You should be able to purchase them with the H key, for 20 funds apiece. I have yet to implement that, almost a dozen years out. With the current “unlimited” setup, you have the choice of restraining yourself to three chopper losses and adjusting strategy accordingly-or not. I may add a “lives” option that enforces the 3 choppers, plus the ability to purchase them.

    Great Scott! You forgot your yellow radiation suit! You should prob time travel back and don that gear. I can tell that you haven't though, bc my cautious words remain for now. I beg that you patch one of these babies into Armor Alley. I'm not nearly as good at the game as I once was. I'll take it back 30 years bc that's a nice round number. With wisdom of now, paired with the dexterity/reflexes of a ten y/o, and the substitution of a time-traveling DeLorean in place of those crappy vans... I might actually be able to win.

    There was a widely implemented varispeed modification for older A77's and a fair number of decks have it installed already--maybe 1 in a dozen A77's on ebay. It seems like these are always Mk2 or Mk3s. There were other standardized mods that one see's time and again in eBay, sales but sadly schematics for these mods haven't found a place on the internet yet.

    • @scottschiller
      @scottschiller 10 днів тому

      Interesting history and context, thanks. I think I’ve seen vague mentions of DIY varispeed mods for older (MK1-3?) models, but I haven’t seen any schematics outside of Studer / Revox’s own service manuals which connect to the capstan motor PCB typically found in MK IV models which uses ICs like the 555 timer.

    • @ghostexits
      @ghostexits 10 днів тому

      @@scottschiller You can identify the varispeed mod by an extra 1/4" jack placed an inch or two above the headphone jack. This is where the varispeed controller plugs in. It's always the same type jack: black, Cliff brand. These jacks weren't too common in the US, so I presume they were sold in kits to A77 owners. There was another amazing mod called "sel-sync" requiring an extra monitor card and allowing an A77 to play and record simultaneously so you could multitrack back and forth with only 2 tracks.

    • @scottschiller
      @scottschiller 12 днів тому

      As with any classic or vintage car, there will inevitably be a few service items; and the DeLorean is no stranger to this, indeed! BTTF conversion aside, this car certainly has a reputation - mostly for its electrical system flaws. It turns out my issue was fuse #7 burned up, the circuit which includes the fuel pump. I learned that I was supposed to replace all 17 fuses yearly as they corrode due to being unfortunately located above the battery, both behind the passenger seat. I was almost three years out, and now I will be better about maintenance. This is the first real issue I've had where the car failed and wouldn't start. ua-cam.com/video/5c4QLDdL4gM/v-deo.html Nice Flux Capacitor sequencer circuit, BTW! ;)

      Less likely, as earlier units didn’t have the capstan (motor) speed control board with “integrated circuit” chips, like the 555 timer. If your machine has chips, it may be someone swapped in a newer board at one point and then this mod is worth trying.
